When To Apply Noise Reduction On Images

Posted in: DSLR, Lightroom Tip, photography

Who likes digital noise on there beautiful images? Well not me of course and I am not a pixel peeper either. Digital noise only noticeable if the images you took where under exposed and you’re trying to bump up that exposure toggle to improve your image. Sometimes also if you have the ISO cranked up and there’s that dark background. Digital noise loves dark backgrounds ;) they show up there like Christmas lights sometimes lol. Ok, enough of me talking about it and lets go straight on when we need to apply noise reduction on your images.

Here’s your answer to the question of; When to apply noise reduction on images?

  • Apply it at the very end of your post process.
Here’s the common error everybody makes.  They tend to apply noise reduction at the beginning of their post process which is the worst part to do it.  Always remember everytime you adjust the exposure toggle up on under expose image, you always add digital noise to it.  Even the fill adjustment adds noise to an image.  Well virtually any adjustment you do on an under expose image will add digital noise to it.  So going back to the question on when to apply noise reduction on images?  Clearly the answer to it is: Before you are ready to save the images. So that means it’s the last thing you do on your post process.
What software do you use for your post process?Adobe LightRoom 3
