Facebook Search Privacy Settings

Search Engine Optimization doesn’t stop at your own website.  With today’s trend, even social networking sites like Facebook can be optimize as part of your SEO campaign. In this post, Facebook would be our social networking of choice.  Facebook’s SEO campaign starts from your privacy settings.  The image to your left is a screen shoot of facebook’s search privacy setting.  Under your setting tab, you will be able to manage your facebook’s privacy setting.  You have options like “Search Discovery”, Search Result Content, and “Public Search Listing”.  Public search listing enables your facebook account crawled by search engines.

SEO on social networking site is almost the same, keyword and relevancy.  It serves as an extension of your website with a built-in community with it.  With facebook, reaching your audience is an easy task cause they available with in your network.   The inter-action with your friends and your friends friend if just a share button away.

Back in June 13, 2009 facebook launched its username claim option for their current users.  They let you select your username as a URL (http://www.facebook.com/your.username).  Placing your keyword as your usename would make your facebook URL search engine friendly, thus helping you attain your SEO goal on social networking sites.  See my post about the 5 most important on-page SEO, the tips I gave you can be applied on your Facebook page.  From rich contents, keyword placement, H tag structure, search engine friendly URL, and of course your page title.

Another thing I have to add is to help Facebook get organized.  Try not to create a business as a personal profile, Facebook’s personal profile is there for a person not for businesses and if you want your business in facebook, please create a business page by clicking on the “Create a Page For My Business” button.  For more information on how Facebook works.

Tweet, tweet away!  Word Of Mouth version 2.0(Twitter), this so called “Word-Of-Mouth, the modern Word-Of-Mouth  on some others call it.  Tweet products, services, or anything that you can think of.  Your tweets will get heard by your followers and to everybody that is in twitter network.  If it interest them they will tweet you back, RT(Re-Tweet) or DM(Direct Message) you about your tweet.   In today’s technology this is the best way to network people that you share interest on a personal and a professional level.  It is the era of Social Networking, Social Media and Social Marketing.
Personal Level
Tweet your thoughts, your ideas or even tweet on what your doing, it can spark an inter-action or conversation within your followers or even in twitterville.  Maybe you will get something good out of your tweets!

There are a lot of twitter apps out there and most of them are really useful to a certain content but only few that satisfies my needs.  The first one i like to share is Tweetdeck, it is a robust adobe air software that runs as a personal browser.  The search function is one of a kind, giving you the ability to monitor certain keywords of your choice.  Looks good on your monitor and I just love the notification alert sound!  Second one is for the BlackBerry users, it is called the Twitterberry.  You can stay connected to the twitter network wherever go and wherever you are with this cool app from Twitterberry.  (Some how if you don’t like the suggested apps I introduced to you, you can always go to Twitter’s apps page for more available apps.)
On how fast technology evolved, it’s always been a challenge to cope up with the updates that are happening every hour of the day.  Not just talking of one particular thing but as a whole.  You know it is been a journey and it is still a long ride from the end of this technological advancement but as for now our life’s updates are read by our followers 140 characters a tweet.  Happy Tweeting Twitterville!
