Samsung TV Capacitor Settlement Notice

Posted in: Gadgets, LCD TV, samsung, Tech Tips

Samsung fully acknowledge that there is a problem with their TV’s capacitors manufactured December of 2008 and prior.

A proposed Settlement has been reached in a class action lawsuit involving certain Samsung televisions. In cooperation with the District Court of Oklahoma County, Samsung Electronics America, Inc. is offering a settlement for certain Samsung-branded televisions manufactured prior to December 31, 2008. You may be entitled to receive the benefits of this proposed Class Action Settlement if you purchased, acquired or otherwise owned any of the following Samsung-branded televisions, and the television is experiencing or has experienced the “Covered TV Symptom(s)” as described in the proposed Settlement. The class action lawsuit alleges a defect that may cause the television to experience symptoms such as not turning on, experiencing a delay in turning on, making a clicking sound, cycling on and off, or other similar problems. Samsung denies the allegations in the lawsuit, but has agreed to settle the lawsuit to avoid the costs and uncertainty of continued litigation.

My kids just got off for Christmas break and low and behold my TV went out! LOL! Thank God for this forum… I called the samsung phone number listed above, and Voila, my TV is covered! Too bad the holiday is on Tuesday, so I may have to wait until Thursday for a technician. If it is the capacitor or the power panel it will be replaced at no charge in my home! Thanks to the original lawsuit and Samsung, I am not going to have to pay!

What phone # ? There is no phone number for Samsung on this site.
The claim form states prior to March 2012. Am I out of luck ? My power supply just died and it is March 2013.

    Thanks

Someone needs to get the CEO involved with this problem. You are running off your customers. If this is not corrected I will never buy another Samsung product.

I have a 42″Samsung Plasma TV model year 2007. Recently my tv turned off starting a loud clicking noise, flashed a blue light(arced), a small wisp of smoke came out of the back of the tv and it kept clicking. It was frightening so I unplugged the tv from the wall outlet and have been dealing with Samsung (1-800-726-7864) for the past week. I have been shuffled back and forth and was even requested to get them a copy of the tv purchase from Future Shop in 2007. After sending them a copy of it they told me it was not on the list of tv’s with the capacitor issue even though it was made before 2008 and I was out of luck. So I asked why if they knew a week earlier that my tv was a 2007 model and knew by the mode code number I provided then it was not on the list of tv’s they were fixing did they keep me hanging for a week only to finally tell me I was out of luck because my tv was a 2007 model.. Wow!! Did Samsung not use the same capacitors in my 42″ plasma tv as the 42″ inch plasma tv’s they are covering under the class action lawsuit?. I have since called another number (1-888-899-7602) and got the same answer from the President of Samsung (I doubt it). Besides being pissed off, I am totally disturbed by the way I was treated by SAMSUNG and very disappointed by their who cares attitude. I read another comment about the same issue and agree with that consumer who also purchased a Samsung tv that SAM SUCKS!! They have lost my business and recommendations to friends/family to but Samsung products.
