I replaced a swollen electrolytic capacitor and re-installed the board. It did not fix the problem. So I ordered a used power board on ebay. It arrived, installed it and the set powered up. Beautiful picture. I will send the board I tried to fix to an online service advertised on ebay to fix for 35 dollars. The board was 73 dollars plus shipping. My parents gave me the set, bought a new set (vizio) and I researched this one and fixed it for just under $100. Not bad for two weeks wait.

Have a LNT5265FX/XAA. There are five (5) swollen capacitors on the power board. I have a service ticket with a repair service - no date yet, no clue as to $. Well out of warranty. If they replace the board with the same issues, why bother? I'll try my own fix first - also lost the Samsung DVR/Blue ray player and the Samsung CD changer. I loved the TV when it worked, now I make it a point to tell others not to buy something the company will not stand behind 100% and point them to the various internet sites regarding the issue. ASUS boards also had this issue - except it was "liquid" core capacitors that leaked, not undersized.

Samsung has recognized the problem regarding the power suppply, be the capacitors, and or boards. It is my opinion that their power supply boards are simply flaud by design. However, they will not extend complimentary repairs for plasma versions of their hd tvs. Not even for a die hard SAMSUNG everything in my home... Currently researching my specific model. Hopefully I can document and share. Thanks for the help!

Charles,
If the problem pertains with the capacitors, they were actually fixing the problem for free. Now, when they fixed your TV last time and all they did was replace the power board, that means it won't solve the problem because it's the capacitors causing it and I am sure the replacement board had the same capacitor type from the one they replaced. Sorry to hear you had to pay $400 for them to fix it :(

I purchased my Samaung LN40A550P3F May 2008 with the extended warrenty. 2 months after the warrentry expired the problem started with my TV. I called Sumsung and they sent out a repair man to fix the it. They had to also replace the power supply. Now after 120 day it is doing the same thing and now not covered. I am not happy with Sumsung and will not buy another one of there products.

Tx heaps. Have a LA40N81BD that stopped turning on - clicking continuously. Thought i had to get a new tv. Found your website. Got new capacitors - 2 x $1.35 Working again! Can't believe how much Samsung service charges vs the actual cost of replacing capacitors. Tx again!
