Search Engine Optimization doesn’t stop at your own website.  With today’s trend, even social networking sites like Facebook can be optimize as part of your SEO campaign. In this post, Facebook would be our social networking of choice.  Facebook’s SEO campaign starts from your privacy settings.  The image to your left is a screen shoot of facebook’s search privacy setting.  Under your setting tab, you will be able to manage your facebook’s privacy setting.  You have options like “Search Discovery”, Search Result Content, and “Public Search Listing”.  Public search listing enables your facebook account crawled by search engines.

SEO on social networking site is almost the same, keyword and relevancy.  It serves as an extension of your website with a built-in community with it.  With facebook, reaching your audience is an easy task cause they available with in your network.   The inter-action with your friends and your friends friend if just a share button away.

Back in June 13, 2009 facebook launched its username claim option for their current users.  They let you select your username as a URL (http://www.facebook.com/your.username).  Placing your keyword as your usename would make your facebook URL search engine friendly, thus helping you attain your SEO goal on social networking sites.  See my post about the 5 most important on-page SEO, the tips I gave you can be applied on your Facebook page.  From rich contents, keyword placement, H tag structure, search engine friendly URL, and of course your page title.

Another thing I have to add is to help Facebook get organized.  Try not to create a business as a personal profile, Facebook’s personal profile is there for a person not for businesses and if you want your business in facebook, please create a business page by clicking on the “Create a Page For My Business” button.  For more information on how Facebook works.
