Acer also have a capacitor problem on their LCD monitor line? I bet Samsung and Acer had the same vendor where they got their capacitors from. The problem was so similar that I was able to fix it with out any problems at all.

So, here’s guide on how you will fix an Acer X221W LCD Monitor: (For Samsung LCD Power Supply Problem Guide)

1. Unscrew the LCD stand (4 screws)
2. Remove the plastic back of the LCD by popping it out. Please use a plastic material so it won’t mess up the plastic cover.
3. As soon you open the back, you will see the power supply casing.
4. Before removing the power supply, unplug all connectors. 1 top(Connected to the LCD), 1 bottom(Connected to the buttons), and 4 at the left.
5. Unscrew the power supply casing (2 screws at each ends, 4 total)
6. flip it around so you see the back of the power supply board.
7. Unscrew the female screws for the VGA and DVI inputs.
8. Unscrew the power supply board.
9. The power supply board is connected to another controller board, so unscrew them the same time.

Now that you see the board, look for bad capacitors. Here’s is how you can identify bad capacitors

For the particular Acer X221W LCD Monitor, I actually replace 2 of the 220uf 25vdc Capacitor 105c High Temp, Radial Leads and 330uf 16v Capacitor 105c High Temp, Radial Leads
.
Here’s an actually picture where the 2 220uf were side by side and both were bad.

If I remember it correctly, all of the 220uF and 330uF was bad and had to replace it. Total 5 capacitors were replace. After everything was replace and installed back, the LCD monitor work like it was brand new!

Now, don’t tell me this is a coincidence. Like what I said before Samsung and Acer probably had the same vendor for their capacitors and that’s probably why this particular LCD monitor went bad. Do you think we can get the bottom of this on were Samsung and Acer got their faulty capacitors? Please leave me a comments and talk about this issue.

This fade-in and fade-out effect is so simple yet it is so beautiful. Today, I’ll be teaching you how to create this cool effect using a single image that is 50% transparent on a static state but on a hover state it fade in to the full colored image. See example below:

Cool huh?

You can also see it on my Web Design portfolio page on how I implemented this fade-in/out effect.

So lets all proceed to the details.

1. First lets load up the jQuery library to use. Insert this code within your

tags.

2. To make it easy for you, I’ll just use the html code I use on the above example.

To add more images just make sure you adding them with in the div class. To be exact on my example I would be adding it with in

3. Our next step is to make the image 50% transparent. To do this we need to style our image within the class. Add this line to your CSS file:

.portfolio img { opacity:0.5; filter:alpha(opacity=50); /* For IE8 and earlier */ }

The above styling just made the opacity of the image under the portfolio class 50%

4. To apply some animation to this cool effect, all we need now is to add some javascripting. Add this javascript with in your

tags.

Here are stuff to take notes in regards with the script above. I have it colored with blue so it’s easier for you to spot. The first part is telling your script to where to apply the animation. Looking at my HTML code, I want to apply it on the img inside the div class .portfolio. It kinda works like CSS . The next part as you can see is the hover state. On hover, the first function is to fade to 1 which is 100% and the 2nd function is when you hover off the image it fades back to 0.5 which is 50% simple as that. As long as you play around on what I colored in BLUE, you should be safe and won’t mess up the script.

Another thing I have to add is 0.1 = 1%, 0.5 = 50%, 1.0 = 100%

And as always don’t forget to click that save button ^_^ and also show us your cool fade-in fade-out effect you made after reading this quick tutorial. We would like to see on how you did. Just leave us your URL to your website on the comments box! Have a good day!

Who likes digital noise on there beautiful images? Well not me of course and I am not a pixel peeper either. Digital noise only noticeable if the images you took where under exposed and you’re trying to bump up that exposure toggle to improve your image. Sometimes also if you have the ISO cranked up and there’s that dark background. Digital noise loves dark backgrounds they show up there like Christmas lights sometimes lol. Ok, enough of me talking about it and lets go straight on when we need to apply noise reduction on your images.

Here’s your answer to the question of; When to apply noise reduction on images?

Apply it at the very end of your post process.

Here’s the common error everybody makes. They tend to apply noise reduction at the beginning of their post process which is the worst part to do it. Always remember everytime you adjust the exposure toggle up on under expose image, you always add digital noise to it. Even the fill adjustment adds noise to an image. Well virtually any adjustment you do on an under expose image will add digital noise to it. So going back to the question on when to apply noise reduction on images? Clearly the answer to it is: Before you are ready to save the images. So that means it’s the last thing you do on your post process.

What software do you use for your post process?Adobe LightRoom 3
.

Let me know what you use by leaving a message on my comments.
